Commerce Committee does not buy Special Interest Groups hostile takeover attempt!
Diane Winston of Covington, LA District 77 (R), introduced House Bill 601. It was soundly defeated by the good judgement of the House Commerce Committee. If passed, this would have been detrimental to the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Louisiana. The very next day Mrs. Winston attempted to attach the same amendment to another bill but was defeated on the floor in an 85 to 14 vote. House Bill 601 would have also lessened requirements of the Department of Health and Hospitals state plumbing code.
The State Police estimated there were approximately thirty two hundred plumbing personnel at the Capital in opposition to the bill.
The power play by the special interest groups was a ploy to misinform the public about the State Plumbing Board of Louisiana. After much research, it was found that Louisiana is well within the norm of the National average per capita for Journeyman and Master Plumbers.
Executive Director, Mr. Barker has praised the House Commerce Committee and the House of Representatives in their vigilance in this matter and doing what was just and proper for the citizens of Louisiana. Finally, we have a group of legislators that is putting the welfare of the public before the profits of the special interest groups.
